Sometimes babies are born too soon and often have health issues that
go hand-in-hand with their prematurity. In November 2000, Novant Health Forsyth
Medical Center opened the Premature Infant Care Clinic to ensure the
positive growth and development of very low birth-weight babies (below
1500 grams) born at Forsyth Medical Center.
The Premature Infant Care Clinic is dedicated to providing specialized care to low birth-weight and other high-risk newborn babies. In this clinic, a neonatal nurse practitioner and physician
assistant, both under the direction of neonatologists, provide the
assessment and care premature infants need.
This program is located at Amos Cottage, adjacent to the Forsyth
Medical Center campus. It is offered in association with the physicians
of Wake Forest University School of Medicine and receives United Way
funding.
