Emergency Care

Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center offers advanced emergency services to ensure rapid response and treatment in any situation. In addition to expert emergency medicine physicians, nurses and technologists, our facilities are equipped with patient-monitoring systems, x-ray technology, on-site labs and surgical suites.

The emergency department is divided into six specially-designed units incorporating best practices for the efficient assessment and treatment of patients.

Major Treatment Beds

There are 26 major treatment beds used to treat life-threatening situations (stroke, heart attack, multiple injuries, severe bleeding, chest pains and seizures).

Minor Treatment Beds

There are 21 minor treatment beds reserved for patients whose condition is life-threatening, but could become more dangerous if not treated promptly.

Emergency Admission Beds

There are 10 emergency admissions beds for non-critical ED patients admitted to the hospital. Registration, admission orders and any necessary treatments will begin in this area before the patient is transferred to a room in the hospital.

Fast Track Beds

There are eight fast track beds, which enable ED personnel to assess and treat patients with minor illness and injuries such as sprains, colds, sore throats, earaches or chronic back-pain.

Behavioral Health Beds

The 10 behavioral health beds provide treatment to patients with mental or emotional distress (crisis intervention, substance abuse, depression, anxiety, addictive behavior and stress management).

The emergency department provides access to quick-diagnostic technology with four x-ray rooms and a state-of-the-art, 64-slice CT scanner, which provides more precise imaging for improved diagnostics. In addition to these advanced technologies, the emergency department has an expanded triage unit, space for emergency medical services and a visitor waiting area with a children's play center, food service area and an area with Internet connections.
